OUTREACH Blue Apple’s Community Outreach offers a variety of programmes – both dance and theatre – that are bookable and adaptable to meet the individual needs of participants and audience. Projects include one-off workshops and longer workshop programmes; specially tailored and full length performances; training sessions; and added value activity, such as post-show discussions. Please contact admin@blueappletheatre.com Living Without Fear A small scale touring dance/drama (40 minutes) about disability hate crime, followed by an in-depth Q&A. Adaptable to play in schools, theatres, day centres, conferences and festivals. Third tour now booking for October 2013 . “One of the most powerful performances seen in Winchester for many years...a blend of moving dance with poignant scenes of prejudice and hate crimes...startling...wonderful.” Dance Blue Apple's Dancers continue to develop their repertoire of bookable performances, with future performances at the Boomtown Festival and the sparkly Blue Apple Ball. Workshops Blue Apple's Actors and Dancers are available for workshops. They have recently been working with Social Care students from Winchester University: “I found the workshop really useful in building our confidence and it was a good communication tool for building relationships with service users. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience." TRAINING FILMS Blue Apple's actors work with the filmmaker William Jessop to create powerful, issue-based short films from the point of view of people with learning disability. These films are available on DVD and are used in training by organisations across the country. For more information, please contact jane@blueappletheatre.com. Paul's Story Blue Apple Theatre were commissioned by the Home Office Community Action Against Crime Innovation Fund to make a film about disability hate crime in partnership with Hampshire Constabulary and volunteers from the local community. The 20-minute film received extensive media coverage ahead of its premiere in Winchester on June 1st 2013, and is now available on DVD. For a subtitled version of this trailer, please click here! Freddie’s Story A new 20-minute training film for medical professionals and other hospital staff which looks at the complexities of gaining accurate diagnoses and improving care for people with learning disabilities in hospitals. This is a direct response to the Death by Indifference Report, more recent local research and the recommendations for mandatory training in learning disability recommended by Sir Jonathan Michael’s Inquiry into Healthcare For All. The film was commissioned by Hampshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and filmed in partnership with and on location at Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust . The cast includes actors with learning disabilities and medical professionals. 'A very excellent resource' (Dr. Su Shaw, Northumbria University) OTHER INITIATIVES Simulated Patient Training Apple Core actors are also working with Southampton Medical School on a programme of Simulated Patient Training. This project has been running since Autumn 2009. Touching Your Heart ‘Touching your Heart’ recently won the Fred Foundation/ Peace Child International award for using drama and dance to tell member’s stories and change the way people see and understand learning disability. ‘Touching Your Heart’ is a 4 minute dance, choreographed by the company and is available for performance. ‘Overwhelming achievement... great enthusiasm and looked great... impressive discipline’.
