1 January 2015 - Happy New Year

As we welcome in our 10th anniversary year, we want to share with you some past highlights. It’s been another landmark year for Blue Apple:

  • We had a triumphant final tour of Living Without Fear to ever growing audiences
  • There was the fabulous performance of Tales from the Arabian Nights at Theatre Royal Winchester
  • BBC Three’s Growing Up Down’s, won the TV Industry’s Creative Diversity Network Award for most ground-breaking programme - it followed actors from Blue Apple Theatre’s touring company as they set out to put on a touring production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
  • We launched new workshops at the University of Winchester and The Lights, Andover
  • Our production of Grimm Tales played to sell-out audiences, continuing Blue Apple’s tradition of bringing a fresh clear eye to familiar, well-loved stories.
  • We secured funding from the Big Lottery to enable us to extend Blue Apple’s reach across Hampshire over the next 5 years.

This was all possible due to the contribution of passionate volunteers, donors and freelance artists who dedicated their support, skills and enthusiasm to ensure that Blue Apple thrives.

2015 has started with great news that Arts Council England will be supporting our tour of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing – which means we only have £10,000 left to raise to make the 10th anniversary tour happen. If you feel you could support in any way, please get in touch.

1 January 2015 - A tribute to our Founder: Jane Jessop

click for full photoAs we enter our 10th year, we’d like to thank to our founder, Jane Jessop; without her vision, passion and determination, Blue Apple would simply not exist.

Jane founded Blue Apple in 2005 as part of Winchester Mencap. When her son Tommy became interested in acting and being unable to find something suitable locally, Jane decided to start a drama group herself. This makes it sound easy but it’s no mean feat especially for someone with no theatre background. Jane’s remarkable vision and enterprise led to Blue Apple’s growth, including its successful launch as an independent charity and in achieving Big Lottery funding.

Although Jane is taking a step back from her leadership role she will continue to be an ambassador for Blue Apple, spreading the word about our work and of course being our number one fan.
